About Mighty Oak State Park

Mighty Oak State Park is a 2,500-acre protected area located in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio. The park is characterized by extensive hardwood forests dominated by mature oak trees, providing habitat for a diverse array of flora and fauna. The land features gently sloping terrain, small streams, and open meadows that add to the scenic variety. Established in 1984, the park serves both conservation and recreation purposes. Visitors can enjoy over 20 miles of maintained trails that wind through dense forest and open ridge tops, ideal for hikers, mountain bikers, and naturalists. Campsites within the park accommodate both tent and RV campers, with modern amenities in designated campgrounds as well as primitive backcountry sites offering a more secluded experience. Wildlife viewing is popular here during dawn and dusk, with opportunities to spot white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, various songbirds, and the occasional bobcat. The park contains several points of interest such as Eagle Ridge Overlook, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, and the historic Oak Grove Settlement site, reflecting local pioneer heritage. Fishing is available in park ponds and nearby streams, while winter activities include snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Mighty Oak State Park’s combination of natural beauty, accessible facilities, and varied recreational options make it a favored destination for outdoor enthusiasts throughout the year.
